Hello Folks... New group member here. I'm seeking advice on how to BEGIN with video editing/creation. About me: I KNOW NOTHING about video! I'm pretty good with Pro Tools for audio recording, and can do pretty much whatever I need to do with audio - editing on a timeline, etc., have just about any audio gear imaginable, and I suspect that video is not that different in terms of editing along a timeline. My video experience is this: I've made ONE Windows Movie Maker movie, and I've already outgrown it - sick of what I CAN'T do with it.
I have a Dell Windows XP SP2 laptop with enough power to run Pro Tools LE very well - multiple external firewire drives, 2GB ram, almost a TB of total disk space (spread across 5 drives), and a clock speed of 2GHz (I know - a little slow)... SOME DAY I'd of course love to produce MTV-quality music videos, but for now, I'd be happy just mixing multiple audio and video tracks together, using the best audio quality I can get from my existing audio equipment, combined with the best video quality I can get from a better camera, and syncing it all together. The only camera I have is a Panasonic PV-GS19...oh yeah, and actually be able to create something for YouTube *AND* something that can be watched on a DVD on a REAL TV where the picture takes up the whole screen. I'm at a loss for understanding why my MovieMaker videos are these tiny little squares in the middle of my screen! Anyway, I hear that Adobe Premier Pro is *THE* way to go, so I'm thinking, why not get the "real deal" right away, and I'd also like to get advice on a better camera that has good onboard audio. I'd like to eventually mix SEPARATELY RECORDED audio in with video and sync it together (isn't that the way pros do it?)...In other words, I'm assuming that cameras generally have bad audio built in as compared to what I can pull in with separate outboard audio equipment, provided I could sync them together later, but I have no idea how to do this. Anyway, if you guys could tell me if Adobe is the way to go, if my laptop will run it (for just BASIC editing for now), and what camera would allow me to at least get some great video (with GOOD sounding onboard audio) of, for example acoustic guitar/vocal demos, beauty pageants...things like that...or the occasional "karaoke superstar" who wants to get a great recording of them singing audio-wise, and then mix that in to video shot of them, so they can be the next "American Idol"...ha-ha... Anyway, thanks in advance for your advice...Sorry I'm so GREEN on all this stuff... Thanks again... Steve [EMAIL PROTECTED] ------------------------ Yahoo!
