Start with Premiere Elements 3.0. That product is only $80 or so, and is a
much simpler way to learn editing, and muuuch cheaper. Your laptop speed is
passable for standard DV video, but may choke a bit if you try to use HDV or
HD video.

I think you'll find that most onboard microphones won't be on par with the
quality you demand. As far as cameras go, 3 chip cameras definitely capture
better images, but time and time again I've seen that good video does not
come from the camera, it comes from the lighting, the audio, and the
shooter. What separates professional video from amateur is not the camera,
but how the camera is used.

Anyway, if you guys could tell me if Adobe is the way to go, if my laptop
will run it (for just BASIC editing for now), and what camera would allow me
to at least get some great video (with GOOD sounding onboard audio) of, for
example acoustic guitar/vocal demos, beauty pageants...things like that...or
the occasional "karaoke superstar"
who wants to get a great recording of them singing audio-wise, and then mix
that in to video shot of them, so they can be the next "American
Idol"...ha-ha...

Anyway, thanks in advance for your advice...Sorry I'm so GREEN on all this
stuff...
Thanks again...
Steve
