got Windows? Get Crap Cleaner!
www.ccleaner.com
This FREE program will dump your temporary files,
clean out web browser caches, remove leftover junk
from the Registry, delete leftover shortcuts that
point to non-existant files- and can also delete
the space-hogging Windows Update uninstall files while
fixing the Registry so Automatic Update won't go
and download them again.
On PCs that've had no maintenance for a couple of
years, I've had Crap Cleaner free up a couple of
gigs of room.
Once you've cleaned things up, defrag the drive.
The defragger with Windows 2000 or XP is OK, but
O&O Defrag is wayyyyyy better.
www.oo-software.com
O&O is the fastest and most complete defragger there
is for Windows 2000 and XP.
If you want free defragging that's better than what
comes with windows, there's Power Defragmenter GUI,
a frontend for Sysinternals CONTIG.
www.softpedia.com/get/System/Hard-Disk-Utils/Power-Defragmenter.shtml
Fast, powerful, ugly- but it works
very well.
