Hi all.
I have been provided 5 mini-dv tapes to use for a new project. The
provider also has put the video files on an external HD USB drive. I
have copied those 5 files, ranging from 10gig to 13gig, onto my local
hard disk.
When I try to import them to PP, my machine gets locked up while
generating the PEAK files.
I was trying to import them all at once and let it run for over 6
hours and came back to check and it was generating the peak file for
the third imported video file and still had two more to go. I just
tried them one at a time. The first one I chose generated the peak
file in about 10 minutes, so I thought I was on to something doing
them one at a time.
The next one I chose, I let run for at least half an hour and it was
still generating the peak file and the progress bar showed about 90%
full for most of that half hour, and if I try to do anything in PP
like save the file, or anything else, the machine locks up. The only
thing I can do at that point is CTL+ALT+DEL and end the PP process.
If I view the task manager, under applications it says PP is not
responding, but has my CPU resources tapped at 99%.
Could this be a problem with the video files as captured by the
provider of the files? Should I just try to capture the tapes again?
This is frustrating, I need to be editing instead of figuring out how
to get the media into Premiere...
