PP handles AVI per se just fine - keep in mind that avi is not itself a
codec; rather, it is a "container" file format that can contain video
encoded according to  mpg1, mpg2, or any number of 4 CC codec's. Perhaps a
good thing for Keith to do is to investigate what codec those dv-tape files
used, then verify he has the correct codec for them.
