in motion browser you couldnot find any option to convert as avi. but if you 
choose save as mpeg2 you can use in premiere but it decrease the quality. me 
too search a convertor from mts to avi. if you have some suggestion as a 
convertor that i need i will be happy to learn.

Thanks for the suggested solutions. However, I can't seem to make it 
work. In the Motion Picture Browser, how do I export as AVI? The 
nearest available command is "Export To" whose only choices are 
either handycam or memory card. Using the command "Open in External 
Program" doesn't work either; it only results in the error message 
again: Unsupported Format Or Damaged File. Maybe it has something to 
do with the fact that I'm not using the latest Premiere but only 
PPro 2.
