To find out whether this is a general problem or only with that 
particular project, I would start
a new very simple project.
One movie, blank background menu and one play button (no chapters etc).
If that is fine add in more assets and functions.

I guess you know that you can check your project for problems. 
File>Check Project
Do you get any indication there?
