Regarding Red Giant and Magic Bullet, I notice here
<http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/store/buyers-guide/upgrading/> that there
are upgrades to 64-bit available, depending on what products and versions
you own. They do have a statement saying if the upgrade is for compatibility
reasons the upgrade is free, so hopefully yours will fall under that
category!

Lee,
yes they are 3rd-party: Red Giant,Magic Bullet. I had not thought of a
possible problem with the 32 vs 64-bit issue- didn't even enter my mind that
plug-ins would be version-dependent. Do you know if that is indeed true?

I was attempting to export the CS4 project thru Encore when the
hang/freeze-up kept happening. I tried that because if you recall, i
couldn't get the project to load right in CS5 because of the missing
plug-ins.

So- to sum up: there are 3 relatively small finished CS4 projects that we
cannot seem to get out of the computer. I'd like to try to save as a data
disk-that's why i tried to export as AVI. Thought it'd be straightforward
(opposed to encoding as Mpeg)but of course it isn't! I recently tried to
export as mpeg & it came out 1 time with no audio, the 2nd try had sound but
just stuttered when played in a dvd player.i then gave up on encoding & just
wanted a straight avi file of the timeline w/effects- foiled again!

Does anyone know how I can save these projects? not even necessarily for
future re-editing). I had looked into a possible option a short time back-
something like "collect & save all assets" -can't recall the correct name.
It also froze, and when i mentioned it on this group no one seemed to have
anything to say on that. hmmm...
the plan now is to (once we can save those 3 projects) wipe all traces of
CS4,delete all files related to the CS4 projects (format the drives maybe?),
and start fresh with CS5. Somehow I think it won't be as easy & painless as
that.

ugghhhh.... Adriane
