Trees do not have self knowledge Enlightenment would be a shift in self-knowledge away from an individual and separate view point So for consciousness my experience of tree occurs at the point of the object tree such that I am the tree BUT and this is the point where people who have not had the experience get lost - the tree DOES NOT have the self experience of me - for me, the tree is me, for the tree as far as I can tell it doesn't care!
