Your best results would be tracking down the speaker at TPC3 who did
the full statistical analysis on the increasing rate of demand for 
Perl vs. COBOL vs. Java programmers.

A reasonable back-of-the-envelope guesstimate would be to search on
"Perl" on dice.com or some other such job board.  Today's stats:

        Java: 43217 / 173199 [25%]
        VB:   18320 / 173199 [11%]  (incl. "Visual Basic", VBScript, etc.)
        Perl: 15608 / 173199 [ 9%]
        COBOL: 2913 / 173199 [ 1.6%]
        PHP:    613 / 173199 [ 0.3%]
        Python: 432 / 173199 [ 0.2%]

Of course, these aren't even damn lies, they're just statistics.  :-)
