Good point about the job market. A quick search of Dice.com using Java and
Perl, results in: 
Java: 42698 matching your query
Perl: 15376 matching your query

So in the tech job market, Java is beating Perl 3 to 1. So, do Java books
outsell Perl books 3 to 1?
