I would expect that to be a paying job since it would require someones
full attention.
CPAN had an enquiry not long ago from a rather large
corporation who wanted someone in our 'legal department' to talk to
regarding licensing of modules / perl as they are going to be releasing an
application soon that uses Perl. I directed them to AS since we have
neither legal expertise or experience in such things. It would be nice to
have someone helping people solve such issues as well as cultivating other
such relationships in a completely neutral position outside of a corporate
structure/bias.
I suspect that companies do want to use Perl but get frustrated with the
dark wood one has to pass through as opposed to some other technologies
that actively work to make using and licensing their stuff a no-brainer
effortless task.
I recommended that Perl have a project manager over a year ago to manage
just such things and the need for such a person remains.
