The book of case studies was called Applied Perl (ISBN 0764547836).
It was edited by Peter Williams who worked with me at Barclays Capital on
Wall Street, and who is now, I think, at Morgan Stanley.
Gunther Birznieks and I have a chapter and if I remember right, Stas Bekman
may have also had a chapter.

That is most encouraging. I'll definately am interested.
FWIW, solutions books and articles seem to crawl out of the woodwork in
other
development environments, namely VB and Java. Not trying to get in to a
comparison here with those camps, but in our camp we seem to only cater to
developing the programmer within the language and usage of the modules and
those topics are harder to come across. Please don't get me wrong, this is
absolutely vital for the success of the language (educating the programmers
as we do) and I have absolutely loved the Cookbook, Effective Perl
Programming, etc. However, I must admit that when faced with challenges
and
requests from other directors in this changing industry, I almost slobber
when I see titles like:
"Business objects in VB"
or
"Building a CRM system in Java"
and so forth.
Slobbering only in relief that I might be able to quickly borrow those ideas
from other people and catapult my efforts further ahead.
Maybe there exists such a resource and I'm not aware, but if not I'd love to
see a "solutions Cookbook with Perl" that might include topics such as:
* Calculating Present Value with Perl (okay, boring and icky but still
valid)
* Benefits enrollment templates for HR
* Document management web applets
* Legacy data access portals
I dunno, whatever. Not sufficiently caffeinated this evening but I'm sure
you
get the gist. If a book is not appropriate, then maybe articles at
www.perl.com
What ever became of Perl's presence in the Dr. Dobbs publication??
