Hi,

Please find answers to your queries:

What happens to the unlinked assets?

Assets are immutable and cannot be removed. To stop an asset from serving,
remove the asset from the entity that is using it. The unlinked assets remain
in your Google Ads asset library. You can remove their association with ads to
stop them from serving, but you cannot permanently delete them through the
Google Ads API.

Is there a possible resource leak when updating assets this way?

I suggest you refer to this help center article of assets for more details. To
answer your query, could you please elaborate on the statement ‘possible
resource leak’.

Thanks,

Google Ads API Team
