>"Chris -- This is not an idle, rhetorical request: You use the word 'meaning' a good deal; would you care to describe what you have in mind with that word?"
I know that you're intrigued (obsessed?) with this kind of question, Cheerskep --- but I don't care what I (or anyone else) have in mind with the word "meaning" (or any other word )---outside some specific context where it's being used. (actually - the recurrent thing that pops up into my mind with the word "meaning" is the masochistic anthem, "Mean to me", that Doris Day sang to James Cagney in the film "Love me or Leave me". I didn't really like that movie -- but I just can't seem to forget it) The last time I used "meaning" was in reference to Polanyi's book of the same title -- and I am patiently waiting to get that book, read it, and finally find out what he had in mind. When else have I used it that especially puzzles you? _____________________________________________________________ You will believe your eyes!
