Then -- why not just call it "art" ? You say that it "does not compare to making art from one's soul" -- but you've never going to say anything about that difference -- other than to say that you, the artist, feel it about your own work. Are you ? Who knows whether the paintings in the Scrovegni Chapel came from Giotto's soul -- or whether he was just trying to please a sentimental, paying customer -- like you were with your cartoon figures. And why should we care ? I'm sure that Dr. Kevorkian's paintings came from his soul -- but yikes! One of my favorite early 20th C. sculptors, Elie Nadelman, assembled a very large collection of non-art sculpture -- i.e. the stuff that's called "folk art" or "commercial art" --- things like toys, dolls, weather vanes etc. --- and his own work bore a strong resemblance to it -- even if he was trying to sell it in the art market (at which task, by the way, he mostly failed -- so he died broke after running through the funds left by a wealthy spouse) ____________________________________________________________ Learn how to save time and money.
