Would Robbins (or anyone) would use the word 'aesthetic' when directing a ballet ?
I probably would not qualify as an experienced viewer of that art form, since I can hardly see the forest for the trees (or legs and arms, as it were) But while watching dance, all I really need to be happy is a few brief moments of exceptional beauty - and it seems that many dance performances have been choreographed to deliver just that, surrounded by filler (just like in opera) > Robbins and other directors -- and playwrights, screenwriters, et al -- are aiming for, and measure their success by, their effect on an audience. Such directors and writers almost never summon up the word 'esthetic'.
