I've never seen a dance in preparation, but I've seen operas and plays 
rehearsed, and a full-length feature movie with stars directed -- and the word 
'aesthetic' never arose. All instruction and commentary was in the form of 
specificities. The most abstract they ever got was to describe the mood/tone 
sought, 
or to discuss a character's motive.
