I've been tapping at a longish posting (occasioned by the encounter

Frances's disquisitions) and I had reason to go to William Conger's

I want to interrupt my tapping to recommend a visit there. I found the
works again and again fascinating in ways that William will be
happy to hear I
can't begin to articulate.
(But I will say this much about a pleasure subordinate to the
works' main
impact: One of the (many) startling aspects is how often, despite
the absence
of specific depiction, the titles feel almost magical apt.)
Don't fear I've gone all mushy. I still say William can be
occasionally
grouchy and wrong-headed, but I'm beguiled to see how much more
ready we are to
accept portions of that in someone whose creative production is so
worthy.
(That's an observation that many character-creating playwrights
would do
well to take on board.)
