Thanks, Cheerskep, for your generous comments. It's very true that I can be churlish and flim-flammy in discussions and the reason is not the syntax of my equally churlish co-listers but far more the damned agony and difficulty of trying to make an artwork (or even writing a clear sentence). I came home today from my studio more cranky and gloomy than usual and it's only because of that creative frustration and my always being fed up with the ugly art world and how it affects artists.
If my paintings can present the look of the inevitable and resolved, as I hope they do, I can assure you that their author is a left a mangled tangle of raw nerves and psychological panic. In the end the work should evoke more content and more nobility than any artist can claim. Real artists will sacrifice almost anything, or almost anything, to achieve that. And that's why being an artist is crazy and rare, and not to be loosely encouraged. wc ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, June 6, 2009 1:39:57 PM Subject:http://www.royboydgallery.com/Conger/Conger.htm I've been tapping at a longish posting (occasioned by the encounter with Frances's disquisitions) and I had reason to go to William Conger's gallery-site: http://www.royboydgallery.com/Conger/Conger.htm I want to interrupt my tapping to recommend a visit there. I found the works again and again fascinating in ways that William will be happy to hear I can't begin to articulate. (But I will say this much about a pleasure subordinate to the works' main impact: One of the (many) startling aspects is how often, despite the absence of specific depiction, the titles feel almost magical apt.) Don't fear I've gone all mushy. I still say William can be occasionally grouchy and wrong-headed, but I'm beguiled to see how much more ready we are to accept portions of that in someone whose creative production is so worthy. (That's an observation that many character-creating playwrights would do well to take on board.) ************** Stay connected and tighten your budget with a great mobile device for under $50.
