Several years ago, Sears bought OSH, and tried to make a nationwide expansion. It cratered, and Sears sold OSH to Lowes a few years ago. Around here, they renovated all the existing OSH stores, and added several more. In the mean time, Craftsman tools went from Sears, to Lowes, to OSH (and maybe others).

We actually enjoyed going to OSH, as they had people that would give advice, and the stores were clean, well lighted, and had most of the stuff we needed from a hardware store. They had a civilized "large item" pickup, where they would have tickets you pulled and checked out with, then drive through the warehouse, and they would load it for you. Way better than getting kneecapped by Joe Handyman wheeling around 20' pieces of rebar.

Have not heard that name around here.  Not sure Sears is still even open around here either.

We saw in the news last night that Lowes is shutting down all the Orchard Supply Hardware stores nationwide (AKA "OSH" around here). They carry Craftsman and other brands of tool chests. They will be starting liquidation in the next couple of days.

Best toolbox prices I have ever seen were from estate sales. Sometimes possible to get something that would be a $3000 snapon new for $250.

I need a larger tool box for my shop.  I have several nice Kennedy boxes but they are not suitable for larger mechanics tools.
So looking for a nice used box.  Snap On, MAC, Mattco etc.

In Utah, we have KSL classifieds.  Generally bargains can be found there.  So I did some data entry.  I also checked Ebay.

I found that nice high quality tool boxes run from 2 cents to 12 cents per cubic inch.
Ebay is higher than KSL.

Matco was about at the top for price, Mac and Cornwall were in the middle, Pro Series (they claim to be a Snap On competitor) were at the bottom.

Snap Ons were scattered through the whole spread sheet.  I currently have 21 entries.
Lowest cost is $990 Highest $8000

I did not include Husky or any of the bargain brands.
