I think Adam is in NY and NY is funny. If the property owners own to the centerline, then the road was created under English Law and is generally 4 rods wide so the easement should run 33' from the centerline. Before then the roads were created under Dutch Laws and are owned by the state but thats generally only in the NYC area. Turnpikes and plank roads are a little different but generally are 3-4 rods wide. It really depends on the road, but generally the road is on an easement and the easement is wider then the road.
