Oh, right, that was another complaint I got from a handful of people trying to
use WiFi calling, their text messages didn’t come through. I figured that was
because SMS uses the control channel on the cell tower and so maybe you
shouldn’t expect it to work. Like people just assume that you can send text
messages to landlines. We do get text messages on our business line, but only
because we have an SMS-to-email gateway configured.

Maybe WiFi calling has matured over the past couple years, I don’t think I’ve
gotten calls about it recently.

Or maybe people have stopped calling their ISP about every problem with every
device they buy and app they use. Haha, just kidding.

Ken,

Was on a Royal Caribbean Cruise over the New Year. Signed up for their ship
Internet package and used WiFi calling. Didn't have any issues. Texts worked
find and I had no problem dialing into my voice mail to check messages.

Somebody mentioned WiFi calling, does that really work OK for you, even
domestically?

I don’t use it, but the only time I hear it mentioned is when a WISP customer
calls complaining about WiFi calling, usually dropped or one-way calls, but
that everything else on their Internet connection is fine. For whatever
reason, they usually seem to have a Sprint phone. My conclusion was that WiFi
calling must not be very reliable, so please stop calling your ISP about it.
It seems like people were using it at their house rather than get a microcell.

Whatever you do, be sure to explore your options. A friend who just spent 3
weeks in Australia & had not really looked into the options spent $10/day for
cell service while there. 21 x $10 =$210. I guess that's not horrible, but I
tend to think about what else I might have wanted to spend that money on.

I have T-mobile one account and use whatsapp mainly. Everywhere I have
been the included international roaming data connection has worked
descent enough with Whatsapp that I really never looked at any other
options. The additional I pay for the One on top of the regular service
would probably equal the same as what it would be for a couple of sim
cards and service.
