Back to the OP, I put in an Amplifi at my customers home.  The customer will let me know if they still have problems.  I told the In-laws to go get a netgear nighthawk with a built in cable modem (now it's not my problem anymore).

The Customer with the Amplifi has so far said things are working better than they were.

I figure that if you get a Roku TV it's probably going to be supported a lot better than most of the others (besides working better in the first place).


And even if it does eventually stop being supported (which it will because things evolve) I just buy a new little box, not a whole TV.
