I haven't played with any of the PTMP LTU stuff, but the AF5XHD definitely can do higher modulations at lower signal levels than the original AF5X, or AirMax products. But as a side note, they also like to try to run at higher modulations than they should... I've had AF5XHD's try to run at 1024QAM, and but the actual link capacity (not what it says the capacity is, but what the capacity actually is) is notably better if you lock it to 256QAM, so some of that may not be real.
