For many years we had a doorbell that needed to be fed and walked. It also
served as a security system. I guess people will buy a Spot now:

They do but just be aware if you hook up a doorbell transformer directly to the
doorbell if anybody pushes the button it will fry you need a load in between
the doorbell is just a momentary switch that is able to parasitically draw
power to maintain the doorbells battery

Oh, don’t have a doorbell ( I have a magneto telephone you crank to ring other
mag phones in the house). I presumed they sent you an alert on your cell phone
when someone pushed the button.

Keep in mind that the ring doorbell is wired in series with a an analog
doorbell and charges the battery with a parasitic drain. Don't wire it in
parallel with a power source or you will be sad when someone tries to 'ring'
the Bell

Given where you live, what do you need security cameras for? Woodland

Battery units also have the solar port. Amazon sells a power cable that plugs
into the solar port as well. But the solar panels themselves have worked fine
for years on some deployed cameras. Yes batteries can be swapped

Is the $10/month plan worth it?
