Oh and a heads up on the Ring and other IoT devices. A friend ( who is very good at this stuff ) found that his bandwidth usage on his ISP ( Spectrum ) had gone from 500Gigs/month to a Terabyte in 2 weeks. He rolled up his sleeves and dug into his network and found out that one of his ring cameras was stuck in a firmware update hell and ip packet spamming the heck out of his network with all sorts of bad traffic. Being that he is fairly well known he was able to get to Ring engineering, where a sr. engineer made the call to send him a new device for his old one. Yeah, things are not always playing well in the network world these days...

Bandwidth usage is motion activated on these and low usage. I always go for highest resolution

Looks like the decision comes down to 720p or 1080 resolution. That is the big difference in the pricing.
It appears I can rig up some external power to all models.
Any opinions on resolutions?

Just read up on it a bit. Interesting.
So the ring camera sucks on doorbell power but not enough to trigger the original doorbell. So it is 100% backwards compatible with your existing AC powered doorbell. Then when you push the button on the camera it simply shorts out the original doorbell circuit as the original doorbell push button would do. They recommend a 25 ohm 50 watt resistor to be placed in series with the camera if the actual doorbell chime is not in the circuit. Now, I wonder how low you can go with volts and VA on a powering transformer. Go low enough and the resistor will not be needed.

They do but just be aware if you hook up a doorbell transformer directly to the doorbell if anybody pushes the button it will fry you need a load in between the doorbell is just a momentary switch that is able to parasitically draw power to maintain the doorbells battery

Oh, don’t have a doorbell ( I have a magneto telephone you crank

Keep in mind that the ring doorbell is wired in series with a an

Don't wire it in parallel with a power source or you will be sad
when someone tries to 'ring' the Bell
