Here's a simpler way.

Take the cost of an AWS equivalent and add 50% or 100% depending on how much you want to do it.

It seems like a hundred years since anyone wanted a dedicated server (I thought AWS crushed that market?), but I got that request today.

My assumptions on my costs are:

  • amortized cost of the server
  • amortized cost of the physical space
  • electric
  • A/C

Any costs am I forgetting?  Asking the group because that part of the brain has gotten dusty.
