I get dark when working in the sun, very dark. I have a son that does too. We have been thought of as Native American or Latino at times. We do have some NA blood but very little.
When I was first married I used to have a game where I would walk around public spaces speaking my pidgin Spanish to my wife. Standing lines at theaters people have referred to me as that Mexican guy. I always considered it badge of honor. Sometimes I would add dark sun glasses, put my hand on my wifes’ shoulder and act like perhaps I could not see. Quick way to part the crowds and get out of a crowded area fast! Doing that with Spanish they presume you cannot hear or see. Got lots of Mexican comments doing that too. It was fun. But without the sun I am pretty white. I have a Latina working here and in the summer, with short sleeves my arms are considerably darker than hers. I went to a political rally a few weeks ago. The candidate was referred to as a “person of color” I started looking around for the candidate because the guy that was standing on the podium is as white as Elton John. He had a somewhat latin sounding surname. He must be running based on his pedigree tree. My Dad was very dark complected. When he was stationed in Trinidad the guys in his unit commented he was darker than the natives.
