I have a very nice elderly lady who is having phone problems. It seems like she might have an analog phone in her house acing up. Going off hook on it's own causing busy signals, redialing calls randomly in the middle of the night. How much troubleshooting of the analog system do you do?

She calls me from her 'cell phone' which I finally realized is what she is calling a cordless phone, she keeps her 'land line' phone down in the basement. So I'm thinking telling her to go buy a new phone would be a little beyond her reach. How would a Big Telco handle a problem like this? Bill for a dispatch? Just keep telling here there is no problem and walk away? I'm tempted to give her a new cordless phone, but that seems like it would be asking for endless questions about how to use it.
