Even better, just get instapak bags and a box that fits your case. Put a slit in the box for the cables exiting the splice case. drop in the bottom instapak. Put the splice case in, add the top instapak. Close the box. Then just burry the whole box. The cardboard will rot of course but when you dig it up it will just be two nice foam halves around your splice case.
You could do the same tins with PU foam, a couple contractor bags, and a box.
