Well, if they're not qualified that is a whole different kettle of fish.

Not to say they can't become qualified.

But United mandated for new hires that half be women or black or both.  The only way to do that was to lower standards.  That was the whole point. There are not a bunch of new pilots with the 5000 normally needed to get the first officer stripes.  While an ATP rating can be obtained at 1500 hours, only local regionals will hire them.  In order to get the applicants the United DEI policy mandated, they were going to have to take those with fewer hours and perhaps non college grads.  They have since walked this back and only say now that the only criteria on hiring will be merit.  I would not want a cockpit full of 1500 hour pilots on a 777 international flight.

/What Kirk started with was flawed. He stated that United wanted to have 50% of their pilots be minorities. That's not what United was saying. What they were saying was they wanted to increase _hiring_ of minorities to get them up to a more representative portion of their actual pilots (i.e. not 50% of the total). You need to read the percentages correctly./

I wish you would discuss that one Kirk issue I sent you the link
on.  I want to know why people think he is so bad in stating an
obvious statistical fact.  If you have been mandated to get more
items from a limited pool of varying quality, you are going to
have to take  lower quality items if you need to meet a quota.

How is that so hard to understand.  Then if your customers know
that your are now having to lower your standards to meet the
quota, why would they be condemned for being curious about the
    quality your products now.

Right. I listened to a segment on NPR this morning, and the person
they had was examining what, if any, ideology the shooter had, and
he seemed very base, and not really aligned left or right, but
looking somehow to make a name for himself.

Kirk, OTOH, was mainly a conflict entrepreneur. Good debater, even
if I disagree with most of his arguments.

Chuck, I'm pretty sure Bill meant the shooter was not a deep
thinker and just wanted his name in the headlines.  I don't
think he was taking shots at Kirk with that comment.

I think it is pretty bad to vilify and judge someone that you
don't know.  Kirk said harsh and provocative things.  But they
were well reasoned and thought out.  For example the "Black
Pilots" issue that is tossed around so much.  The critics have
not taken the time to listen to the whole argument.  I agree
with his argument.  Not a racial thing, it is simple stats.

Watch it and tell me how this is a racist comment.  Tell me
        how he is wrong?

I believe Chuck thinks you mean Charlie Kirk when you say "the
guy", as opposed to the guy who shot him.

I have never watched anything from him. At all.

Like I said, I did not know he existed before last week.

Before Kirk was shot, I'd never heard his name.

I didn't attempt to find out what he did until a day
or two after he was declared dead.

Next thing I heard was that the guy they arrested came
from a conservative (possibly MAGA) family. That was
                not certain.

The more we hear about the guy, the more he seems like
he was a-political, and did not conform to either
                right or left labels.

He is certainly not a deep thinker. I think he just
wanted to see his name in the headlines. Meme-centric
                point of view.
