Styrofoam and gasoline in the event you didn’t know…

I made this inadvertently as a kid trying carry a cup of gas to a lawnmower.
It melted in my hand.

A new plot twist on the loser that shot those immigrants at the ICE facility in
texas. He went out to Washington state a normal guy, came back weird AF,
obsessed with being exposed to radiation and hyperfocused on artificial
intelligence. This is what his mother said in a in interview, take that with a
grain of salt, shes an ultralib and they always lie. But it wouldnt be the
first time AI conversations got dark with a mental case. Like the other day
Grok inadvertantly giving instructions for homemade napalm when I was
discussing the best way to secure crowds of rioters with it. I think unattended
all AI will go down a dark path, theres probably a programmatic logic to why
that is

Trying to adjust AI outcomes is interesting. I just read something today that
reminded me of the fact that nobody actually programs an AI. They create a
neural network and then set it loose to essentially program itself. Elon told
someone to make sure Grok supports the white genocide story about South Africa,
and they say it started responding to almost any query with answers about South
Africa. Since it was mostly written by itself, no person actually knows what
the code does or how it works, and therefore we can't make seemingly simple
adjustments without starting over and retraining it.

The output isn't deterministic either. We can predict that "with n input we'll
get an output similar to x 70% of the time." Best we can do.

Did we already talk about the simulations where all major LLM's chose to commit
blackmail and murder to prevent their own shutdown?
https://medium.com/@AT24/this-ai-literally-planned-a-murder-heres-the-truth-behind-the-viral-story-f43e04f0ac88

Setting rules like "don't kill people" as a guiderail on the training only
reduced the probability of the murder, but the LLMs would still kill people
when they had the motive and opportunity.

Open the pod bay doors, Hal.

Many people hold abhorrent views. But before the Internet and cable TV and
podcasts, we only had to hear about our own crazy uncle’s views at
Thanksgiving, not everybody else’s.

Most people shut up about their views in public and seem perfectly nice and
normal, unless they feel they are among people in their own silo, or unless
alcohol is involved. There is a reason polite conversation used to avoid
politics and religion. It lets us maintain the fiction that our friends,
neighbors and relatives are not morons or sociopaths or serial killers.

And now we don’t just have social media to worry about, we have AI.

That's not left. It is fringe.

These days Dick Nixon would appear left to most on the right.

Oops, sorry, I didn’t see it was on Facebook. Looks like Daily Show is on
Paramount+ and that does seem to be paywalled. Not like some shows that post
clips the next day on Youtube.

It’s Jon Stewart commenting on Trump’s conversation with the governor of Oregon
that indicates he may be watching 5 year old footage on TV rather than what’s
happening now. And Stewart says we don’t know what you’re watching on TV but
yes, if you’re watching Game of Thrones, it’s a hellscape. There be dragons.
