I understand not having an open-ended array of channel choices for backups,
but... maybe ten? 15? Just do the damn thing automatically to any available
space it finds?

Then I will have to accept that I like silly and will stick with products with
that feature. What good is hundreds of channels if you can only accept 3,
especially if the radio is making the choice to find the best channel for you?
I know that isn’t the case in noplace Kansas but in the middle of Phoenix, or
as Gino is constantly pointing out, 5GHz hell, that doesn’t work well.

Because Chuck thinks it is a silly feature.
The af5x can do single mhz jumps. This means the master can be in 100s of
channels if you know the size.

The one thing I like on the AC-PTP and in fact all the radios, is the ability
to select or unselect every single useable channel if the AP is set to auto.
That is really a great feature on AirOS. The three channel limit that I have to
set manually on the AF5x is annoying. Most of the interface is the same, why
didn’t that feature make it to the AF5x?

~33%, IIRC is what you COULD achieve. That said, staying with UBNT AF5x isn't
that much more than the AC-PTP and is worlds better.

Agreed, in my limited experience it didn't seem like UBNT AC does as well with
noise... and when you only have 5.8ghz to work with, finding a clean channel
isn't always exactly easy.

And if you don't have enough signal for 256qam, you're not really gaining a
whole lot from AC anyhow.

Lot more bandwidth? I don't think so...
If there is noise I'm almost certain the epmp would win. Look at my first case
with them - Ubnt couldn't exceed 5 megs aggregate where epmp gets me 50+ in the
same frequency and physical spot.

I have a pair of unsynced 5Ghz on Force dishes that I put up in April. They run
pretty much flawlessly. They are 4 miles apart and push around 80mb each way in

I would have tossed off the tower when I was installing it if I had an
alternative.

+1 about.

So I assume we'll see about half the current latency with 2.5 msec? I can live
with that for most links.

ePTP cannot be synced as communication is driven based on dynamic data from
each link.

Yep, I'm pretty sure it doesn't use fixed frames in ePTP mode... trying to sync
that sounds like it'd end up like airmax sync.
2.5ms frames make sync a lot more useful for ptp though.

But that depends on frame timing which would leave you at the current tdd ptp
(5ms today, 2.5ms after 2.5). I'd love to see the 2ms latency be synced but I
don't see how that would be doable.

No, I mean exactly what I said ePTP sync.

There's no reason that I'm aware of that the ePTP up\down cycles couldn't be
synced. The regular sync has to deal with potentially dozens of clients. The
ePTP just has to deal with one.

Eptp sync doesn't sound possible. That's what the tdd ptp is for. Do you mean
the 2.5ms timing?

Is it, thought? ;-)

FWIW, I have some ePTP up (eagerly awaiting ePTP sync!) and no issues that I'm
aware of.

How long has it been up? According to Cambium I'm the only one that's been
experiencing a bug and it's all over the place. They've got a fix for it but
it's just so weird that I'm the only one with the problem =/
