I purchased an expensive line locator from somewhere when I moved into the new place. Located everything I could with it.
Even with that, I cut my own propane line when I moved into the new place. It was absolutely positively not where it was supposed to be - when the tank and the regulator is on the other side of the house from where you're trenching you don't expect to find a yellow pipe. The propane company told me when they came out to fix it that the propane tank was originally where the shop is now and when they moved the tank, they were told to leave the old line hooked up so that they could use the propane in the shop at some point in the future. The frustrating part is the guy walked over to the shop, dug the end of the line out from under a pile of pine needles to show me where it was - complete with it's own locate wire (which didn't continue all the way to the new tank location).
