The longest AF24 link we have is 2.72 miles. And I don't like it. But I
have those set to drop the ethernet link so OSPF fails over fast. Still
a pain in the ass.

13 km is really, highly terribly optimistic for a regular AF24 in, for
example ITU rain zone D (Seattle). More like 5km if you want five
nines at its proper modulation rate.

AF24 works here well up to 3 miles. We have one at 4.3 miles, which
to date has worked well but as we have had no rain to speak of for
years it’s hard to know what it will do in the rain.
Anyone a feel for the % better a 24HD is over 24?
