What a shock. The proponents want more unions and social programs to "fix" the problem. There is decent on the subject if the whole article is read and good counterpoints. Bottom line is it is a flawed comparison and flawed methodology.
Not sure what you mean by throwing slogans around. I don't think I have done so. My opinion on this countries stature is based on overseas travel and what I see there. Their standard of living versus ours. Evidence of mobility will surround all of us this weekend. I agree that it is tougher now than thirty years ago. I'm my opinion government regulation is the main issue there. I will say that if you think there is an issue, get involved to solve it. Getting involved and doing something to make even a little difference isn't as hard as you might think.
