Daniel, this is too easy. No more size comments. It’s killing me not to take
advantage of that opening.

Arizona has a lot more rain than Idaho… even parts of Washington. I believe
the rain rate for Phoenix is higher than most of Colorado too. Phoenix is
similar to San Francisco for instance.

In fact – it’s easier to design a link in Portland than Phoenix (rain rates are
about how hard it rains, not how often it rains).

/soapbox

I’m going to say one thing about this thread – DISH SIZE DOES NOT MATTER. Just
cause it works for Rory does not mean it will work for you.

I can’t stress this enough. Each path has to be engineered separately. This
is not 5GHz – rain does affect 11GHz. Expectations on what constitutes a good
link vs. a band link vary widely between providers. 18GHz, 23GHz, and 24GHz
are even more important. It’s not apples to apples.

Any 11GHz radio, with proper engineering, can easily go 70+ miles. Proper
engineering, right terrain profile, etc.

Thank you,

Daniel White

It’s northern Az so not as pleasant as Phoenix. Sarcasm?

I’ve got a 48 mile link going up and it looks like right now I’m using 4’
dishes although we are still working on the 6’ dishes.

Great! Look forward to seeing you there. We’ll be sending out invites to our
event relatively soon as well.

Cool - I hope to get with you guys in Louisville and get the link designed.

You’ll be fine without having to do anything crazy at that distance, we have
some 45+ mile links out there on B11 already, obviously dish size is unique to
the coordination, but thought I’d share for reference.

I'm hoping to use them for a 18-20mi link. Don't need 980mbps though.

What is distance, channel size, dish size, latency and throughput?
