Hi,

We ran extensive tests with speedtest.net software and we noticed the following
possible issues you might encounter when trying to get the full gig out of your
connection:
- CPU power is crucial. Check your CPU usage while running speedtest. The more
CPU is used, the less probable is for you to get the gig
- If you have a laptop, you must make sure that the power profile is set to
something like ‘high performance’ and that it is plugged to power. There is no
way you will get a gig out of Win computers, if you do not set those
- Antivirus firewall can kill the gig real easy. Make sure you disable any
fancy firewall you are running
- Routers can kill the gig, if they are not capable of a 1g NAT or they are
configured to do all kind of fancy inspecting of traffic. Ideally, you would
bypass the router and plug direct into your computer.
- Chrome is really really bad at getting gig speeds. On the bench test we saw
Chrome performing 20-30% less than other browsers. We got gig without any
issues with Edge, Firefox, Opera and even IE. I would say Edge was the best of
them at speedtest.

Of course, you need to make sure the server you are testing against with has a
10G uplink; that’s quite impossible to figure out… I can tell you that our
public speedtest.net (Race Communications) in LA and SF have 10G uplinks and
they are capable of testing with several 1Gbps customers at a time. But we are
pretty far from you… You might want to try something like Comcast near you. The
further you are from the speedtest server, the less probable you will get the
gig.
