I have seen uverse modems using ipv6 now

  I don't think it's guaranteed to remain a public IP either, it could 
  become CGN one day. A while back AT&T stopped allowing uverse from using 
  10/8 on the LAN side, which would be a prudent thing to do if you needed 
  to use that on the WAN side.
