Yeah, here's a case where we have an intersection with politics.
The primary motivation for these hearings is that some stunningly incriminating footage exists regarding a large number of high-ranking public officials and politicians. The intention of the hearing is to sew enough doubt into the minds of the public that the footage will not be believed when it is finally released. Reports are that some of the things on these tapes are acts of evil and depravity beyond what any sane mind can contemplate.
We are living in dark times. Civil war is looming in the USA and even if things don't go that far, there are severe problems all around. I see AGI as a potential solution to these problems, or at least as a means to escape.
