When I taught computer science a few years ago at Florida Tech, both students and faculty were 90% male. The encode.su data compression forum where I was active for many years is even more male dominated, although I don't know for sure because many of the members go by pseudonyms, possibly to hide their gender to fit in. Data compression is a very competitive type of programming.
I don't think that bias against women in STEM is entirely to blame. There are biological differences in brains that explain why autism spectrum is more prevalent in boys. The parts of the brain that don't develop social skills in face recognition and language are used instead for math and logic. But it's not hopeless. It just takes longer to learn these social skills to be successful in your relationships. Alan, don't give up. I'm 64 and I met my wife on match.com 2 years ago. Prior to that I had to figure out dating all over again and had several rejections. I took them as lessons, stuff I should have learned as a socially isolated teenager 40 years later. Do something for your health and exercise. If anything, it will make you more attractive and you can meet women in fitness groups whether its yoga, CrossFit, or running. Make friends in Facebook and stay away from politics. ------------------------------------------ Artificial General Intelligence List: AGI Permalink: https://agi.topicbox.com/groups/agi/T13ece356b5584ae3-Mb2f2b3de2f867b27191cb3e2 Delivery options: https://agi.topicbox.com/groups/agi/subscription
