Thank you for your offer Brett. I will take you up on it once I get some time.
I just wanted to tell people that when I started working with some more focus,
I realized that the algorithm I am starting to develop would not work. But when
I started to think about it I remembered that there was another parameter that
I had neglected to use. I probably did forget partly because I am getting
older, but it also went against some habits that I have developed over the
years and because I was so focused on so may other parameters that I had
forgotten some others.  I think this process is pretty typical of thinking and
learning. You have a new idea (or plan) that is almost pure fantasy. I think
fantasy is built on what we know about the world, but it involves an unusual
way of thinking about it. Then when you apply the plan (or dream) - or a part
of the plan - to some other cognitive-based knowledge then you may refine or
develop your plan. A fiction writer might realize that some part of their basic
idea does not seem at all plausible due to some situation he had not considered
and then he could use that as part of the plot. Or if you know about another
system that would put constraints that you had missed, you can revise your plan
to meet those constraints. And you need to simplify in order to start on a
project that might turn out to be complicated.
