I haven't found the paper(s) you suggested yet, but no doubt our job is harder, we are responsible not simply for building a 3d map, but for making the whole concepts introspective and malleable enough to be used and modified (e.g. by string theory) in a general intellect. Plus, as always, an AGI is imaginable that completely messes up the 3d nature of its world (is it really 3d anyway) but nevertheless convinces with its other abilities.
