I took many Math courses at University and I have spent a long time in CS.
I don't think my opinion about Math is somehow "out there".

Physics wouldn't be possible without Math BUT Physics is not called Math.
Computer Science is. Take a look at a few of the posts including the one
from Ben and you will see what I mean.

Just explain to me why CS should be treated with less respect than Physics?
Why is CS Math but Physics is not?

Simple question.

I think this is more about how we use the term "mathematical" differently
than anything. When I call something mathematical, I mean it can be
expressed mathematically, or it is amenable to mathematical analysis. I
think a lot of people use the term this way. I'm a bit surprised to find
that other people use it differently, to mean that it is literally part of
math and/or is expressed in mathematical notation. This difference in usage
could potentially explain a lot of disagreement and misunderstanding on this
list, not just in this particular conversation.
