I KNOW this will not help, but since both intelligence and mathematics
are ill-defined you are wasting your time, and I am saying this from a
position of authority having wasted a lot of time with both. I have
previously expressed my hunch that mathematics is a form of magic, or
perhaps the only magic. The intuition behind this has been expressed
by many researchers with sentences like "the unreasonable
effectiveness of mathematics" etc, and for me it stems from the very
interactive way in which we develop mathematics, mathematics being
tied both to our consience and our environment. I guess by this
definition automated theorem proving and stuff like that is not real
mathematics, maybe it is CS:)

On the intelligence front I don't know how an advanced intelligence
would look like, or even a more advanced than me or my grandmother's.
Notoriously women and men of a certain age can't program their video
recorder (maybe they are doing better now with TiVo and AppleTV, but
for decades they were useless), but I am not ready to deny them their
intelligence or even their IQ. I believe that once we have near-human
level AI we can start experimenting and get some hard data on machine
intelligence, and we know that data bring insights which currently may
be totally unthinkable.

With considerable delay, I noticed that no lesser an entity than the
US governments NIST has been organizing workshops exactly about
machine intelligence, and make the proceedings freeley available, I
will be digging in this material, starting with 2012
http://www.nist.gov/el/isd/permis2012.cfm . Of course with such a
notorious problem we may come out empty handed, but it's worth a try!
