Realistically nothing can be promised from further funding OpenCog. It already has a lot of funding, so a kickstarter would hardly make a dent. Also it doesn't have many practical applications that would be useful to the average Joe. So far the most practical thing I've heard it applied for is some stock analysis. Though I'm sure it's less able than the ones they use at wallstreet, with all those micro-trading AI's, that have made ordinary humans all but obsolete.
Also in terms of any other AGI project, it simply takes way too long to realize the benefits, we are talking at least years, maybe decades. It's not like when kickstarting some physical prototype, which is truly an issue of money rather than time and effort. Most high ranking developers cost around $60 an hour, that's almost $50,000 a month. that's why most of the estimates of how much an AGI project would cost, quickly escalate into the millions and billions.
