Hi Emahn, I infer from your email that you're more humanities oriented than tech oriented..
However, I would suggest that if you want to be integrally involved in shaping the future, you'd do well to get a science or engineering background as well. Perhaps a double major in some humanities field and some science/engineering/math field? Even if you don't end up doing anything in science, having a richer understanding of how science and/or engineering work will be quite valuable for you... Beyond that sort of general advice, the main advice I have is just obvious stuff. A diverse background is important. Writing, speaking and quantitative skills are important. Learning basic programming will help you in various ways, even if you don't end up in a career where it's part of your regular duties.... Understanding the basics of how a business works will benefit you; even if you don't end up starting a business... If you study philosophy, definitely go back and read the original works of the great philosophers directly, don't trust the modern summarizers and philosophologists ;) .... There is certainly a lot of depth to be mined in all that old stuff. I'm re-reading various translations/interpretations of the Lao Tzu currently! ... -- Ben G On Thu, Aug 1, 2013 at 6:00 AM, Emahn Novid <[email protected]> wrote: > Hello Singularity and AGI readers, > > I'll keep this brief since I've been told there have been similar topics > discussed here.
