Mostly arguing about philosophy on lists like this or lesswrong. When this list was created a few years ago, there were several people working on AGI projects. All of them except Ben Goertzel have given up or left. As a result, we have a lot of discussion along the lines of "my approach is right and yours is wrong", although it should be pointed out that nobody has actually produced an AGI or is even close to doing so. I gave up after I wrote a set of requirements and figured out what it would cost. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Z0kr3XDoM6cr5TgHH0GXQTjyikr7WpCkpWFn9IglW3o But that's OK. All of these problems will be figured out with a lot of work by a lot of people, a little bit at a time, even if nobody here comes up with a grand solution that took evolution 3 billion years to figure out. Isn't it more fun to argue philosophically about whether a robot that looks and acts like you is you, rather than figure out how to actually build such a robot? -- -- Matt Mahoney, [email protected] ------------------------------------------- AGI Archives: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/303/=now RSS Feed: https://www.listbox.com/member/archive/rss/303/21088071-f452e424 Modify Your Subscription: https://www.listbox.com/member/?member_id=21088071&id_secret=21088071-58d57657 Powered by Listbox: http://www.listbox.com
