Now that we have moved on from punched cards as input, we could easily
reformat between

Add A to B giving C.
  -- and --
C=A+B

And further, reformat using verbs and sentence structure from other
languages, etc., so there really is NO argument between C and a COBOL-like
language, only an argument (if any) whether there should be a way to
express SIMPLE statements in a local natural language, and accept simple
NL-formatted statements.

In short, a COBOL-like front-end for another language like C++ would be
close to perfect, though C++ still has a lot of shortcomings for serious AI
work that should be addressed at the same time.

Any interest out there is defining such a thing?

Full employment can be had with the stoke of a pen. Simply institute a six
hour workday. That will easily create enough new jobs to bring back full
employment.
